My experience : 9yr Mirena user now pregnant

I’ve been successfully using Mirena for 9 years after the birth of my second child (this is my second iud of the same kind/brand). It’s great and I have loved it. I actually am in the small 20% of users that don’t experience a period as a result of use.

So for 9 years, I have lived period free. Until last mth, I got some light spotting 30 days after my 2nd moderna vaccine. No big deal. I figured it was the standard breakthrough bleeding reported.

This month, 60 days after my 2nd moderna vaccine, heavy bleeding, cramps, and clotting. It’s been 10 days and growing concerned.

Talked with my gynecologist and they stated that their office it had reports of unexpected heavy periods or breakthrough bleeding from the COVID vaccines. However, even though it’s normal, they were concerned with the amount and length I have experienced.

Out of curiosity, since it is a side effect/risk of this contraceptive, I did ask if it were an ectopic pregnancy whether or not the symptoms would be so obvious that I wouldn’t be able to mistake it for a bad period spurred on by a vaccine. I was told I would have pain and that I could take an at home test until I come in for an appointment.

After some searching, I have seen some women make reports of having unplanned pregnancies and unplanned pregnancies while on birth control right after being vaccinated. They have personally attributed it to a possible side effect to the vaccines.

I did have sore breasts and was a bit unreasonably tired over this week and a little the week before. So, I grabbed one of the spare pregnancy test I had and took it, it’s positive. My IUD is in place in the same spot as always. No illnesses. No change in lifestyle or diet. No medication or supplement use either.

The only thing that has changed in my life has been the fact that I just got 2 Covid vaccines within a 30 day span of each other. And now, apparently I am pregnant after 9 years and vaginally bleeding at the same time.

Anyone else? I have found some ladies on TikTok whom have shared similar stories.
