My experience : I don’t know what to do about my IUD, please help!
Hey ladies, I’ve reached a breaking point. I’m in dire need for some advice before my gyno appointment later today and have a mini rant so please excuse me. I’ve been on the Mirena IUD for one year and three months now. This was my first form of BC, and it hasn’t been very pleasant. Before getting on BC my periods were extremely heavy accompanied by severe cramping since I was 9 years old(I’m 25 now). My gyno recommended me getting on the Mirena to help with my periods/PMDD and since I only have one sexual partner I decided to go for it. Ever since insertion my period’s flow remained the same, but breakthrough bleeding in between periods have been a nightmare. Not just spotting, but pretty moderate bleeding. Sometimes if I’m lucky there will be at least one week within a month where I’m not bleeding/spotting at all. Other then that I’m wearing a pad almost all the time. The only silver lining I’ve had is very mild cramping when I’m on my period and my mood swings aren’t as bad. The one time I experienced severe cramping(similar to the insertion process) was on my second month with it while I wasn’t on my period and was passing quarter sized blood clots. Ultimately I got checked out by another gyno cause mine was booked up and he tried reassuring me that it’s rare for it to get displaced, gave me another rundown of how it works, and the amount of irregular bleeding I should expect within the next couple of months. Honestly it was a terrible experience and made me feel like I was overreacting, he only checked my strings to reassure me that it was in the correct place. I decided okay if this is what I should expect I’ll just give it a year and hope for the best. So here we are today, what concerned me recently was the breakthrough bleeding coming back with blood clots the following day after having sex with my partner. I checked my strings(which are curled up), and my cervix felt bumpier/harder than usual. I’m concerned that the IUD might have actually lowered into my cervix. I made an appointment with another gyno recommended by my sister(my main gyno is booked, again) to see what’s going on, but if it is misplaced I’m on the verge of just getting it removed and trying out a different method. I’ve thought about possibly switching out to a different progestin IUD like the Kyleena or just getting on the mini pill. If you have any recommendations or a similar experience please let me know what has helped you out the most! What would possibly be the best route for me to take?
