My experience : Pills vs. Patch? Switching?
I started birth control when I was 15 (now 21) for severe menstrual cramps and other PMS symptoms. Now I also use it as my only contraception for sex. I have also had a history of mood disorders since teens. We all have heard loads of anecdotes on how birth control makes people more depressed and whatnot. I have also learned that taking the pill specifically raises the risk of cancer by 10% after 5 years of use (I'm worried because I have other cancer risks). Apparently the patch doesn't have this same risk of cancer though they are both made of the same hormone, estrogen. So I'm looking to switch over to the patch in hopes of reducing the risk as well as mood symptoms. I'd love to hear peoples experiences on switching from the pill to the patch. How did it affect your mood and do you think it is less effective against pregnancy than the pill? Thanks everyone!
