My experience : Advice: BC with higher Estrogen than Progestrone levels
F(24) in the Netherlands. I've been looking into restarting birth control recently, as it's becoming more and more clear to me that the fluctuations are impacting my energy and mood. I used to take a pill when I was 18, but it didn't agree with me at all and actually made my mood worse a lot of the time. But I hope there are other options, now I know what to look for and what the difference between some meds is.
I also take ADHD-meds everyday, which also work less during my lutheal phase and my period. Apparently this is a more common thing for people with ADHD, and can be due to the fact that estrogen influences your dopamine levels. So when estrogen levels become lower, this also means your dopamine levels drop. And since a lot of people with adhd already lack dopamine, this then becomes even worse during this time of the month.
I know that I feel best on the days of my cycle when Estrogen is just before it's peak and is still higher than Progestrone, but also when Testosteron is still not at its peak. So just before ovulation if you consider the basic cycle map (https://womeninbalance.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/HormoneCycle.jpg)
Therefore, I am also pretty sure that combination pills would be best for me, as these influence both Estrogen and Progestrone rather than just Progestrone. However, I also realised that different versions of these combination pills influence these two hormones on different levels.
The pill I took before was one that was more commonly prescribed and which probably made my progestron level consistently higher than my Estrogen level (like on this image: https://a.storyblok.com/f/50646/3568x1447/7af70535a4/period_pill-14.jpg), as it was more focused on progestron than estrogenic as far as I understand. So, knowing now that I do best with higher Estrogen than Progestrone, I've been looking into pills with more estrogenic effect, and I particularly like the EE/NGM pill (Sprintec).
However, I was wondering if anyone knows what levels of Estrogen and Progestron are expected when you take a pill that's more estrogen focused like this, and specifically whether estrogen will be higher than progestrone when you take it, just like your hormone levels would be around day 10-13 of a cycle? I essentially want a pill that will help me keep my hormones more even like in the link to the second picture, but with the estrogen and the progestron line reversed. So if anyone knows if this is the case and/or what BC pills are best for this, I'd love to know!
TL;DR: Are there BC pills that gives baseline level of hormones where your estrogen is higher than your progestrone, just like you'd have just before you ovulate?
