My experience : My thoughts on Nextellis (1st Month Review)
I started nextellis on Sunday, May 22, 2022. My period started Friday, May 20. Per the instructions, you could start on the first day of your menstrual cycle or the Sunday after it. I was instructed by my gyn to start the Sunday after. I wanted to write about my experience because I have been researching and not finding too much information. So it is now the 3rd day (May 23, 2022). I haven’t noticed any weird symptoms. I also take eurothyroxine for my thyroid. I switched from 1/2 to a whole but may switch back to 1/2 because I felt extremely sluggish today.
It is day 5 (May 26) of taking Nextellis. I feel groggy. I’m also taking zolpidem. I take it around 10:30 at night. I woke up at 4:00am and fell back asleep. Also woke back up around 8:45am. I woke up groggy yesterday too with a headache. I took some Allegra thinking it may have been sinus since it was raining really bad. My headache did go away. Just feeling like I haven’t completely gotten my sleep out. Did take 1/2 citalopram.
Day 6 (5/27) My cycle is over. I felt like I got my sleep out. I didn’t feel as tired today. Mild cramping. I usually only feel cramping like this a week or two before my period. No food cravings. I haven’t had anything but coffee today because I havent had time to really sit and eat. I wasn’t as hungry today either. This usually happens after my period. My appetite isn’t as strong. I wasn’t as anxious today either. No headache today. Forgot to take my euthyrox today. I’ve layed off of it for a couple of days just to see if I wouldn’t feel sluggish. I usually take half but have been taking a whole to see if my mood would be better. This backfired as I felt sluggish so I think I was taking too much. So I skipped that today. I did take half of a citalopram. Took zolpidem.
Day 8 5/29/22 Starting Week 2 I’ve been having restless sleep for the past couple of nights. Mild cramping.
Day 9 5/30/22
Irritable today. I think itms because I haven’t been sleeping well and may not have anything to do with Nextellis. Mild cramping still throughout the day. Had a cup of peppermint tea because I’ve been having rectal discomfort again. I’m hoping this will soothe it.
Day 12 6/2/22
I accidentally forgot to take the dosage from 6/1….I took it immediately this morning at around 10am when I remembered. I turned my alarm off yesterday…big mistake. I thought I could remember. The alarm is going back on right now. No bad symptoms. Only mild cramping but I took some tylenol.
Day 29
I haven’t updated in a while, but I haven’t had any new or different symptoms. The last day of my active pill, I had diarreah, but I associated that with some diary I’d eaten. I have been having night sweats but that is normal for me in the days leading up to my cycle. My cycle started today so it lasted 29 days. The average for me over the past couple of years had been 35 days. Last month(May 2022), before starting Nextellis, my cycle was 31 days and in April 2022 it was 48 days, which was the longest I’ve ever went without a period. Not sure what caused this. Maybe just overall stress of the pandemic and stress in general.
The cramping over this entire month was not normal for me. It started the day after I took the first pill and last all the way until my period started. I had some breast tenderness around day 24 that wasn’t too unbearable. Nothing out of the norm. I felt a little on edge on day 26 and 28, with a little fatigue but that’s all normal. I was a bit hungrier than normal. I also always have sugar cravings around the time of my cycle. Nothing too crazy. I skipped the white pills in the pack since those were placebo and I read where it was optional to take them or not.
I’ve felt horrible on some pills such as Ortho-Tri Cyclen. I used to take that back in the early 2000s and I stopped after about 7 years on it. I must mention that I haven’t taken bc in over 8 years because of the fear I had associated with it. I didn’t want to gain weight or have synthetic hormones in my body. I’m already taking Euthyrox because I do not have a thyroid. It was removed in 2017 due to a huge goiter on my neck. I think the doctor said he left a small portion. But after the removal I lost about 30 pounds. And that was with healthy eating and exercising. So with all of that, I didn’t want to gain any weight back.
I hope this has been helpful. I start the next pack tomorrow June 19, 2022. I’ll keep you posted on the next month. I plan on exercising more this coming month and eating a cleaner diet.
