Birth-control- Was anyone prescribed their specific form of birth control to primarily treat symptoms of depression/PMDD?:fCare

What birth control options are available?

Barrier methods. Examples include male and female condoms, as well as the diaphragm, cervical cap and contraceptive sponge. Short-acting hormonal methods. ... Long-acting hormonal methods. ... Sterilization. ... Spermicide or vaginal gel. ... Fertility awareness methods.

My experience : Was anyone prescribed their specific form of birth control to primarily treat symptoms of depression/PMDD?

Over the years, I’ve had to fight my insurance company to approve prior authorizations for Beyaz. I was prescribed Beyaz 12 years ago as an 18-year-old girl who was experiencing severe menstrual/hormonal symptoms, including low mood, depression and suicidal ideation.

As a 30-year-old woman today, I’m finally coming to terms with my mental health and that it’s not just PMDD. A lot is lurking below the surface and I’m actively taking steps (finally) to sort it out.

In the meantime, back to the prior authorization issues: I recently went through a period of three days where I couldn’t take my birth control but finally said enough is enough, I’ll pay out of pocket this time because I’m feeling unwell. So, I opted to pay for my pack without insurance and ended up taking three pills in one day to catch up. Not sure that was the right thing to do and I probably should’ve consulted my doctor, but I didn’t.

Shortly after, I experienced a lack of control/coping and the deepest bout of depression I can ever recall going through. It’s now been a couple weeks and I feel a little more normal. Fortunately, I did get the prior auth approved so I’ll be set for another year with Beyaz.

I think I’m currently just trying to reach out to see if there are any other women with common experiences. Not exactly sure what responses I’m looking for; and to clarify, I know that everyone is different and different forms of BC work for some and not for others. Nothing is cookie cutter when it comes to women, our bodies, our hormones and what works to treat different symptomology.

Thanks
