My experience : Bipolar+history of bad bc experiences

Hi all, sorry for any weird formatting as I’m posting from my phone. I (20f) am looking for advice about what birth control method might work best for me.

Here’s some backstory about me and periods- When I was 12 i got my first period and i bled for 40 days straight. My conservative mom did not want to put me on the pill to stop the bleeding, which my doctor advised, but she eventually caved. It made me moody and depressed at the time. I stopped taking the pill shortly after the bleeding stopped. After that I have always had long (usually 7-10 days) periods that are incredibly painful and debilitating with a very heavy flow, as well as hormonal acne and mood swings surrounding my periods. I always get dangerously suicidal a week or two before I start bleeding. When I was 16 I got nexplanon and my periods stopped altogether for almost a year but then I got a month long period, my doctor put me on the pill while I still had the nexplanon. Eventually the nexplanon was taken out and i stopped the pill. I am unsure if the nexplanon had much effect on my mood or if I was just an unstable 16 year old with undiagnosed bipolar, either way I was not doing well mentally. I have had a pelvic ultrasound but was told everything looks normal. I have always had wildly unpredictable periods, i have never been a once a month person. Sometimes I will have 2 periods in a year, sometimes 2 in one month and then it won’t come back for another 3 months. For the last year or so I get my period about every other month.

My periods are genuinely unmanageable between the intense pain, heavy flow, and drastic impact on my mood/behavior and suicidal feelings. I also have bipolar disorder and take 900mg lithium. My sister and mom have light periods like clockwork. An IUD is off the table for me, i believe that any birth control i try needs to be something that can be easily removed/stopped in case of adverse effects on my mood. I so badly want to find a solution. Please share any thoughts or advice.
