My experience : Mirena IUD pos experience
Just wanted to take a moment to write a post of my experience. I’ve read a ton on here about peoples experiences, most seemed more negative. Likely because people tend to write a post to vent not to give good feedback. Anyway, here’s my story.
My doc recommended I go on the Mirena IUD rather than BC pills, since I deal with regular migraines & extremely painful/heavy periods. I was really nervous & apprehensive, mostly because I hate the anticipation of pain and the unknown.
They did the insertion on day 4 of my period, told me to take 800mg ibuprofen 1 hour before and I could also take Tylenol too, so I did. I also took Ativan and I think it honestly helped a lot. There was a small amount of uncomfortable cramping when they did the first part (measuring) but it was short lived, maybe ten seconds, then there was another quick cramping sensation when the inserted the IUD. But as soon as it started it stopped. They had me lay there for a few minutes to make sure I wasn’t dizzy. And I felt fine. It’s been a few hours now and I haven’t had any additional cramping. I’m still on my period and was having cramps still on the way to the appt but seems the ibuprofen and Tylenol helped. I have a heating pad on standby if I need it and will take more ibuprofen /Tylenol as needed. All in all, I had a much better experience than I was expecting. Preparing before hand with the max ibuprofen, Tylenol, & Ativan, along with eating breakfast first really made a big difference. My doc was also very patient and explained all details and made sure I was ok through it. I’m really happy I went through with it. My husband drove me since I took an Ativan and was worried I might pass out but I was completely fine. Hope this helps someone out there!
