My experience : My Kyleena experience
Okay so I just want to share my experience about Kyleena. I got it put in almost 2 weeks ago now. I'm 28 years old and this is the first time I've ever been on any form of BC other than taking those awful plan B emergency contraceptives. I also stayed abstinent for 7 years prior to this year soooo I didn't need it haha.
Anyways. I tend to feel alot of side effects of things so I was really nervous about BC but an IUD sounded like the best potential option since it's low maintenance. I picked kyleena because it is smaller and has less hormones and it supposed to reduce periods too.
At my first appointment, the doctor told me I have a slightly tilted uterus and I got kinda freaked out and I had to go see a different doctor who worked with that. Anyways, I go to my appointment.. the doctor was nice. It was a guy, which I felt a little awkward about at first but I got over it. He had to use smaller tools which freaked me out at first. I was trying not to panic because I read SOO many things about women having bad experiences and being in so much pain after.
I took 1 Aleve pill an hour before the appointment because it's all I had handy. The measuring part was super uncomfortable and there was some pinching and cramping that started but it was pretty quick. I was surprised by how quickly it went. Afterwards I sat up, and went to get dressed. The doctor asked me if I needed to rest and I asked him "am I supposed to?" And he just said that some women need to. I just felt some mild cramps and went into work and carried on with the day. The cramping was so mild that I didn't even take any more pain pills. Some light spotting occured for the next 3 days and then it completely stopped.
I was so shocked by how little I felt, cramping was gone, spotting was gone - I felt paranoid after the next week when I tried to feel for the strings and couldn't find them, I wondered if it somehow fell out or if something was wrong because I felt so normal.
Went to see the doctor again a week after the insertion to check on the strings and he said it all looks normal. As far as side effects go, mine have been SO mild that it almost feels like it didn't happen. The one thing I noticed is that my nipples got really tender after but they don't hurt, and I feel like my sex drive has gone up but I don't know if that's a coincidence because it hasn't been that long.
Anyways if you wanted to skip over all my words I understand but basically, my experience was very good .. like so good that I was a little suspicious about it. So goes to show that we don't all react to this stuff in the same way. I'll try and update in a few months.
