My experience : Advice to handle adjustment period after IUD Insertion

I’m looking to get the copper IUD (ParaGuard) so I don’t have to take the pill anymore. After 7 years I I’m tired of the hormones. However I’ve been seeing some pretty terrible horror stories about the months following insertion. I know everyone reacts to it differently but I’m concerned about the months after getting it.

I know it’s common to have a much heavier period and worse cramps for AT LEAST 3-6 months after getting it. However I’m currently job hunting and I’m worried about how the cramps/heavy flow will affect my work performance. I work with children so I can’t necessarily just go to the bathroom whenever I want. How do you manage the cramps/heavy flow? Is it really as awful as everyone makes it seem? I know it’s more common to talk about a negative experience than a positive one, but seeing all the horror stories lately are making me nervous. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! TIA
