My experience : Combo to progestin only (Slynd)

So I’ve fairly recently developed migraine with aura after being on combo BC for the last 15 years. I originally started this method due to a history of extremely bad ovarian cysts (rupturing) and other things such as irregular periods, etc.

I use Nurx as it’s just convenient, and haven’t had an issue until of course mentioning the migraines. Now the doctor refuses to fill my usual pill (Seasonique off brand aka levonorgestrel & ethinyl) and only gave me the option of Norethidrone, Slynd, Depo shot, or IUD. I absolutely refuse to do the shot or IUD (I have an issue with needles, and my mom works in labor and delivery, I see too many horror stories of IUD) so based on his options, the only one I think would even work for me is the expensive af Slynd…

I am /extremely/ nervous to even consider anything other than combo bills after all these years being on it. I understand his concern of stroke and blood clots, but the side effects of depression, weight gain, irregular periods, etc have me extremely concerned as I have a history of depression, weight gain from the medication I’m on, and other issues.

So… I guess I’m here reaching out to see who else may have had a similar experience of switching from combo to progestin only and how it went for you. I also understand that most people only ever report the negative, not the positive, so I’d like to hear it all.
