My experience : My Skyla IUD is expired, and I just have a few questions…
I am 29/F. This is my second Skyla IUD, so I’ve had it for a total of 6 years.
The IUD expired last month on 08/19. I am unable to get into an OB/GYN until 11/17 and even then, that is a new patient appointment so I will have to schedule another appointment to get the IUD removed.
By that point, it will have been expired for 3 months. My question is, is it safe for me to keep it in for that long after it’s expiration? I’ve already started experiencing some cramping and I don’t want to endanger my life or anything like that. I have left a message for the nurse asking about this, but I just wanted to get some advice here.
Should I just wait until my appointment in November and set up another appointment to have it removed? Or should I maybe try and go to my local health department to have it removed ASAP?
Any thoughts or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
