My experience : First period after getting IUD?

Sooo on October 4th, I got my Mirena IUD inserted on the 4th day of my period. For the first week after getting it, I barely spotted. There was no blood in my underwear, and just some pink on the toilet paper when I would wipe. Then the actual spotting started a week after that. I would wake up bleeding and bleed throughout the day, and then toward the evening, I wouldn’t be bleeding anymore. That went on for around a week, but I seemed to be bleeding progressively more and more. Now it feels like I am on my period with how much I’m bleeding. I also have hardly had cramps until today. The cramps are AWFUL. Just as bad as when I get my period, except these cramps are also occasionally shooting down my leg. It feels like I’m on my period, but I’m not supposed to get it until Thursday. How will I know when I actually start my period vs. if I’m just bleeding from the IUD? Has anyone had a similar experience?
