My experience : PSA about Birth Control and Anxiety

This is in no way of scaring people into not taking bc. This is a way of educating people because I didn’t find a lot of resources about this.

I had no experience with anxiety and after getting placed on Yaz oral bc, I developed severe generalized anxiety as well as a panic disorder. Yes, birth control can cause this, do not let your doctor tell you otherwise. You know your body best and trust what it’s trying to tell you!

I went to countless doctors for over 2 years trying to figure out what was causing this out of the blue anxiety and they said it was “past trauma” but I knew myself and my body better than they did. After I stopped bc, my anxiety went away mostly. It’s very hard to get rid of anxiety once that ball starts rolling so it’s been a battle. If I knew what I know now, I would’ve never been on bc. Know the pros and cons and weigh them.

I ended up figuring out what was causing the anxiety, not the doctors… I was literally losing my mind with this severe anxiety that I was contemplating hospitalizing myself. Stopping the bc was the last resort and it worked. But I am not 100% myself anymore and I am so angry this is who I am now.

This is my experience with bc pills and I’m sure others have dealt with it too.
