My experience : Anxiety and IUD
Hi there! Just had my first Mirena placed 6 days ago. I have one child and the pregnancy was so traumatic and physically demanding that it is medically recommended that I never get pregnant again. (I'm 100% in agreement, as I am also now terrified of pregnancy because that first one tried to kill me twice.) I have used hormonal BC pills for the 6 years since I gave birth, and decided an IUD would be more useful.
Having said all that, my IUD placement went smoothly, but was extremely painful, and it's not something I wish to experience again for a long time. I'm consumed with anxiety that my IUD is going to expel. I can't stop thinking about it. (I have an anxiety disorder at baseline, this is not a new problem). Every cramp or twinge sends me panicking that I will have a problem and end up pregnant.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with IUD placement/use/management?
