My experience : Random pain and bleeding months into having my IUD ?
Hi all, I’ve been having some issues with my IUD (I have a hormonal one, Kyleena) and was hoping maybe someone can offer some insight or advice? It is extremely important this method of birth control is reliable as I take Isotretinoin(aka Accutane) and it is very dangerous to get pregnant while taking, so I’m pretty desperate for some advice.
So I got my IUD inserted in July of this year and it went perfectly. Other than some initial pain and bleeding during the first couple days(which my OGBYN said was totally normal) things were absolutely fine, I could even go to work the next day. Almost all my cramping and bleeding, which were light anyways, subsided in under a week.
Months went by without a problem. I also didn’t get a menstrual cycle once in those first three-ish months(OBGYN also said was totally normal for my period to vanish completely which it did).
Issues began a few days ago when I randomly started getting waves of some of the worst cramps I have ever experienced in my life. When I say these were bad I mean they were 10x worse than those post-insertion cramps and also were much worse than my usual menstrual cramps that I had pre-IUD. The cramps went on for a couple days, I noticed they usually were on the right side which was also abnormal than any other menstrual cramps I’ve had, luckily they gradually got better. Just when I thought it was finally over I began bleeding for the first time in almost four months. I’ve been bleeding kind of lightly on and off for a couple days now and I also get the occasional bad cramp still although it has improved.
Basically my biggest fear is that my IUD has slipped out of place. This could be possible especially considering I have been much more sexually active over the past few weeks than I have the first few months with the IUD. Has anyone had anything similar happen? I have an appointment with my OBGYN tomorrow but I guess im just worrying so much I was hoping someone who’s had a similiar experience or who knows a lot more than I do can offer some advice?
