My experience : Skyla IUD -- What can I expect long-term?

Hey gals,

I got a Skyla IUD inserted this morning. Ouch. I wanted the Mirena to stop my periods, but I'm young, small, and childfree, so I've never given birth and apparently my cervix is very small. My doctor thought Skyla would be a better choice, and while I don't disagree with that, I'm concerned that I may not get the result I was looking for re: no more periods. Honestly, I'm disappointed, and worried that I may have sat through intense discomfort for something that won't even do what I need it to (though obviously it's still effective contraception so that's good).

So, for those of you that have had the Skyla, what is it like once the initial adjustment period is over? And how long did it take for your side effects to level out after insertion? I'd especially love to hear from other young people who haven't given birth, but any contributions are welcome.

Thanks!
