My experience : Need advice on what to do for PCOS with respect to BC
Hi there, first post here.
Jumping right into things, I have PCOS, and I was put on levonorgestrel + ethinyl estradiol, because I do have a heart condition and cannot take estrogen-only pills.
Well, I have recently gone through a very crazy medical thing (I taper off benzodiazepines after ten years of use, and that is a GABA agonist, and progesterone acts on the GABA receptors which is causing withdrawal like symptoms), and it seems like the birth control is causing restless legs syndrome, because when I was off of it for the placebo pill week, they completely, 100% went away. I took my new pill yesterday, annnd, I am having really bad restless legs again, plus I got super duper sick in the morning and threw up, which has never ever happened to me before.
I am NOT pregnant, as I literally just had a menstrual cycle last week and haven't had sex in a month, but I don't know if I can keep taking birth control because I cannot sleep because my restless legs are too awful. Even right now, they're vibrating.
I also have been getting extreme joint pain while taking the pill I'm on.
I've taken Sprintec (norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol) and that literally made me psychotic, like, not an exaggeration.
The only thing that helps is cannabis, but I don't want to have to rely on cannabis to take away my restless legs, because I don't like being high 24/7 (at least I haven't since the last 10 years) and that's sort of not a feasible option.
I have pamphlets for Kyleena, Paragard, and Mirena.
I read about Paragard causing some issues with people, however, I know it's hormone free and I like the idea of that... but IDK If it's a good idea since I do have PCOS.
I don't really understand women's health, because I did not have a lot of education about it, and my OBGYN only goes over things in laymans terms, so I don't know where to start, or what to do.
I appreciate any information whatsoever.
Thank you.
