My experience : Paragard failed without explanation

After about a year with the Paragard, I found out that I am pregnant. The IUD is not dislodged or out of position. My cervix is not tilted and there are no other anatomical reasons as to why it might not have worked. The OB had no explanation for why it failed.

Unfortunately, while not ectopic the pregnancy implanted in a place where removing the IUD would most likely terminate it and leaving it in would result in a very high chance of miscarriage and many other risks - uterine perforation, pre-term birth, placental abruption, etc.

I have a 16-month-old and can’t put myself at risk for his sake, and also don’t think I can emotionally deal with the anxiety of a very high risk pregnancy, so am having the IUD removed and going from there.

I have never been on hormonal BC and don’t think I want to start now. But I can’t trust the IUD anymore. It’s one thing if it was out of place or an explainable issue, but that’s not the case. I already have an Oura ring so debating the Natural Cycles app and if I get pregnant, that’s okay… I just don’t want to get pregnant again with an IUD.
