My experience : Extreme bloating and swelling on combination BC after skipping inactive pills
Hi all, I have been experiencing what I would classify as "extreme" bloating and swelling for the past couple of weeks and would greatly appreciate any thoughts or advice y'all have! It is so frustratingly difficult to find information on women's health issues sometimes.
I have been taking a combination birth control pill (microgestin 1.5/30) for about ten years. A couple of weeks ago, I did something I have never done before, but deeply regret: I skipped the last week of pills (the inactive pills) and immediately started taking a new pack. I did not ask my doctor first. The pharmacist had casually asked me when I picked up my prescription if I skipped the last week, and I did some research afterward and learned that skipping the inactive pills could reduce bloating. I have always suffered from bloating before my period, and it's incredibly uncomfortable, so I thought I would try it.
Now, my usually 7-10 days of bloating before my period has not gone away. It has been three weeks. I am so bloated abdominally I feel like I'm waddling around, lol. My breasts are so swollen and painful they keep me up at night. I have spent hours trying to research what is going on, and it seems that the increase in hormones has been causing this, probably.
Yes, it's been three weeks and I have not been to the doctor yet because I literally just had my Well Woman exam last month. I don't have an OB/GYN currently and the wait to see one would be quite a while. I am not worried about pregnancy; my long-term partner had a vasectomy five years ago.
Has anyone experienced anything like this? I don't know where else to turn. Thank you in advance.
