My experience : Is there a way I can help prevent getting hormonal acne while on the pill?

The pill is not necessarily my ideal option, but it's really the only one I can reasonably afford since I don't have health insurance. One thing I'm really concerned about is the possibility of getting more acne since I already suffer from painful cystic acne that doesn't seem to go away no matter what I do. It also has a huge effect on my confidence and I would absolutely hate to get even more than I already have.

I'm not on the pill yet, but I'm planning on getting my first 3-month supply soon; is there anything I can do to help prevent hormonal acne from the get-go or is there really nothing much I can do?
