My experience : My doctor prescribed me birth control pill but I don’t know when to take them

So basically my doctor said that the pill(diane-35) should be taken once my period starts for 21 days, then I stop taking the pill until my period starts again and I take them for 21 days again. But the pharmacy and the label said to take them for 21 then wait 7 days and then start taking them for 21 days again. My period is pretty irregular so I’m not sure what to really do Which one is correct?
