My experience : Did anyone else’s period get SHORTER after getting paragard?

Paragard notoriously makes your periods worse/heavier/longer/more painful, but I have not had this experience at all so far…

I had Kyleena for a little over 4 years before deciding to switch to Paragard and I’ve had Paragard for almost 2 months now. With Kyleena I would spot for over a week before my period actually started, then I would bleed for 5 days or so, then continue to spot for several days after that.

I’ve gotten my period twice since my insertion and while my cramps were maybe slightly more painful than before, I had almost zero spotting before getting my period and my period only lasted for like 2 days. Admittedly the bleeding was pretty heavy on the first day but then it slowed down dramatically and just ended. I got some light cramps before my period started and some moderate cramps on day 1, but after that it was easy breezy.

I’m really okay with this because I don’t want the heavier periods, but I obviously was surprised because I wasn’t expecting it to be easier than on the hormonal IUD. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Did your periods eventually get heavier?
