My experience : Help, Need to Know if I'm Protected

I was on the combination pill the month before, I finished the pack and had my period. My pharmacy was late in delivering the new pack and it's been about 4 days after my period stopped. I'm probably going to get the new pack today. Do I still have to take the pills for 7 days to be protected from pregnancy? Or am I immediately protected since I've been consistently using the pills before this incident?
