My experience : heavier cycle after starting pill?

i started combo pill altavera 28 at the beginning of september and since then, my cycle has been a lot longer and heavier. i really hoped i’d have the opposite effect. before my cycle was about 3-5 days, only bled medium/heavy for about the first 2 days and very little to no bleeding the other few days. my last cycles since starting birth control has been 7-14 days, pretty heavy the first 5 days and consistent spotting/light flow for the rest. anyone experience anything like this? is my body just getting used to the pill still?
