My experience : Just took my placebo week and feel dreadful?

Hello everyone,

Maybe a bit TMI but I’ve taken birth control for almost two years continuously.

When I first got it prescribed I was told it was a-okay to do. My last prescriber, who was kinda rude and dismissive when I asked if I could adjust the dose to help with a few side effects, told me I should take a placebo week every four months. He actually went so far as to ask if I had even bothered to look up the medication I was taking, which, yeah. I’ve read the pamphlet from end to end and it doesn’t say anything about it. Also looked up tons of resources from PP and other healthcare service. No “4 month” rule that I could tell. Honestly, by now he seems like the dismissive old man doctor that women (including me) complain about.

Took his advice and the best way to describe how I feel is a freshly caught fish being gutted. It’s so painful. I also feel emotionally distressed in a way that is worse than I have in years with no trigger or reason. Worse than any period I remember, but it’s been two years so who knows…

So, two questions: 1. Do I have to do this again? Should I? 2. Is it normal to feel this bad?
