My experience : obgyn won't give me a refill

So I recently just got off a call with the receptionist at my medical center. I called them yesterday because I had ran out of pills (and usually they just prescribe it that same day and I go pick it up. Simple). She had told me she would get back to me later that day to tell me when my prescription had gone through. Well, she never did. Today they called back and told me that my obgyn would not prescribe me a refill until we either had an in person visit or a televisit. Both quite hard for me since I work full time. I told her... well yeah we can do an appt but I still need my birth control. She brushed it off and said I still need an appointment first before I can get the refill. I told her that I really needed them as I took them every day and this was really inconvenient to me. Wouldn't budge.

My televisit is next week Thursday and I'm at a loss... I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do till then. This is probably going to mess with my cycle and I was doing so well taking them every day... this is the first time they do this and I don't understand why this visit is so important that they can't just give me my refill first....
