My experience : Copper IUD and cycle length variations

Hello! My girlfriend has had a copper IUD for 4 months. Before having it her cycles were 29 days long, but since she had it inserted, her cycles have been 32-33 days long. Her periods, as expected, extended to 7-9 days (3 of heavy bleeding, the rest being spotting), but they were diminishing from cycle to cycle.

We went to a normal check appointment two months ago, they did an ultrasound and everything was ok. Last week she had another appointment where the doctor checked the strings and they were ok.

I observed that for the past three months she had some cramping during ovulation, and spotting one and three days before her period. Other PMS sympthoms were back pain and cramping some days before her period, and breast soreness 1 week before.

Last period consisted of 6 days and less blood, it was heavy bleeding still, but not as heavy as the other cycles where she needed numerous tampons daily.

Her period came earlier than expected (if this is a period - 29 days cycle), she had her spotting yesterday and three days ago, she described bleeding yesterday night being 2 out of 5, and bleeding this morning 1 out of 5. Maybe it is too early for posting this but I am a little anxious and curious, I rule out pregnancy but after a lot of scares I still get a little tense when things like these happen (Even though we only had sex once this month and it was with a condom on).

Is this length variation common? thanks in advance.
