My experience : Doctor couldn’t find the opening to my uterus during IUD insertion

Hello everyone! So for some quick background info I have uterus didelphys which means that I have 2 uteruses. In my case I have 2 uteruses and one cervix although some people with the condition can have 2 cervixes and even 2 vaginal canals.

A symptom of uterus didelphys is very heavy and painful periods. So, after many appointments and failed attempts at trying the contraceptive pill it was decided that I would get the Mirena coil- one to be inserted into each uterus.

I had my insertion appointment today and after about 45 mins of the gynaecologist prodding around, he was unable to find the opening to one of my uteruses. He was able to successfully insert one but the other sits empty.

I’m wondering if anyone has had the same kind of issue? Obviously the 2 uterus part is rare but have any others went to have a coil inserted and then the doctor not be able to find the opening? If yes, then what happened? Were you able to go in again and get it inserted on a different day? I’m hoping that this is the case because I would like to have the coil put into the other uterus if possible.

Thank you for reading and hope you have a lovely day!
