My experience : Question About Getting Your Period

I have extremely long cycles (often 100+ days), and when my period starts it is always abnormally light. My gynecologist did one blood test which was normal, but she won't do further testing or an ultrasound despite the fact that she thinks I may have PCOS. She told me to go on BC if I was that concerned. I would rather not go on birth control because I worry that it would mask an underlying issue. However, I'm not totally opposed. I'm not sexually active, so the birth control would strictly be used to regulate my period. Is there any type that would allow me to continue getting my period naturally? It seems like the bleeding that happens with HBC is always just withdrawal bleeding.
