My experience : Liletta Experience (Oct 2022)

Giving my (26/f/) Liletta experience that I got inserted yesterday since I saw limited information on it in this. I got mine at Planned Parenthood for free with their sliding scale program.

Liletta which was just approved for 8 years! I should be good until 2030!!

The insertion itself was not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be but it was a series of the worst cramps of my life. I have a tilted uterus so when the doctor was sounding (measuring) my uterus this took a little longer than normal and was the worst part of the whole procedure. It was some really intense and slightly painful cramping.

The one thing I was not prepared for was the amount of blood directly afterwards. Be prepared for that if you choose to get one! The doctor left me to clean myself up and I felt like I was wiping up a small crime scene.

The best thing I did for myself was take 800 mg of ibuprofen about an hour and a half before the insertion and then brought a squishmallow friend to squeeze during the actual procedure. Having something to squeeze was SO helpful. It helped calm my anxiety so much.

There was some pretty intense cramping afterwards, like really gnarly period cramps. This was slightly alleviated with a heating pad. I’ve also been spotting since the procedure which is normal. I could have driven myself home / taken public transit but I feel lucky I had someone to pick me up and keep me company afterwards. It was much nicer not having to think about navigating traffic or public transit.

I could have gone into work today but I chose to take a sick day and I am glad I did because while I’ve felt fine all day, I am extremely fatigued and slightly crampy. I believe this is due to a combination of how nervous I made myself and just the stress my body went through when getting the procedure.

Overall, I definitely recommend getting it (as of right now) if you are thinking about it - especially as reproductive related health care is under attack in the US. It is so worth it to me to know that it is virtually impossible for me to get pregnant.
